Mother's Day - Jewellery Gift Ideas

It's Mother's Day on Sunday this weekend and if you're still looking for a special gift for your mum, then look no further.

I'm going to be honest here - I'm not a huge jewellery wearer, and don't tend to wear jewellery every day other than my watch. It isn't something I'd typically buy for myself, but this makes it extra special when I receive a piece as a gift. I am making more of an effort to wear jewellery on a day-to-day basis rather than just on special occasions - why save something you love just for special occasions? I don't know how I got into this mentality; probably the fear of damaging expensive and delicate items. But no-one will benefit from the beauty of them if they're tucked up in a box never to be seen! My sister got me a gorgeous sweetie bracelet from Links of London for my 30th birthday and I have little charms attached with the kids fingerprints. I absolutely love it. I also have another Links of London bracelet, this time from Rick, and it's a mixture of silver and rose gold. However I'm reluctant to wear them day-to-day and as a result they rarely get worn. Another set back is my littlest, who is obsessed with all things sparkly. If she saw my jewellery collection then she'd probably want to claim it for herself! Anyway, I digress...my point was that I despite me not wearing much jewellery, I do think that a well chosen piece can make an ideal gift.

I was sent a gorgeous pair of rose gold earrings from Chisholm Hunter to celebrate Mother's Day and they are just beautiful - I'm feeling very lucky. Here was me thinking I'd be buying my own Mother's Day gift! They will be perfect teamed with my rose gold bracelet. I've been drawn to rose gold lately, not only for jewellery but also home accessories. Definitely on trend right now.

Chisholm Hunter have a variety of jewellery gifts that are just perfect for Mother's Day. You'll find the boutiques in Glasgow's Argyle Arcade, The Fort and Silverburn shopping centre or online at www.chisholmhunter.co.uk. There are a variety of options at various price points, this heart charm is great value:

If you want to push the boat out, you also can't go wrong with a watch in my opinion - I'm sure most mums would happily receive this gorgeous Michael Kors Rose Gold plated timepiece:

Michael Kors watch, £259 (available for express delivery)

{#ShareAdvent - Write and send a letter}

Today's #ShareAdvent prompt is to "write and send a letter".

I love sending and receiving mail the old fashioned way... although I've been so busy of late with the new house and all that I've been rubbish with my #PostCircle efforts (sorry fellow Grey Seals).

Anyway, the kids and I prepared a homemade card for their cousins and parcelled these up with some "Make your own Christmas Card" kits (from Tesco, I'm not organised enough to make my own) that have been popped into the local Post Office for delivery.

There's something about letters and the written word that appeals to me.

I've still got the letters that my mum wrote to me when I was working in America at summer camp in 2000. She died the following summer, and when I read the letters back it always brings a tear to my eye.

I spotted on Pinterest that you can have a necklace made where handwriting is transformed into a piece of jewellery. Definitely something that's on my Wish List. Isn't that a lovely idea...

{Get Organised}

Glasgow Mummy

It was one of my new year's resolutions to 'get organised' and I'm making good progress, but I still have a long way to go.

I'm trying to tackle different areas each week, and one of these on my list is my jewellery storage, or lack of it. I was never really a fan of wearing jewellery but I've started wearing it more frequently.

At the moment I have my jewellery in a plastic drawer in my wardrobe, but it's jam-packed and I can't access it very easily and as such I end up not wearing it. My other issue is that I need the storage to be at a toddler-free height otherwise my two little magpies would take it all!! I do have a lovely leather jewellery box that was a gift to me on my wedding day and in this I have some special pieces, but not my every day items.

I'm been scouring Pinterest for ideas and inspiration and have come up with the following:

Bex (Olive Dragonfly) also has a similar vintage storage unit on the wall of her bedroom, but I can't find the link to it on her blog.

I love the idea of reusing ice cube trays for separating out earrings.

Rebecca over at Florence Finds has even shared some different craft projects for creating a gold patterned tray

Are you a wearer of jewellery? How do you store yours?

{Christmas Party}

Today is my work Christmas party, and we're all looking forward to getting into our party frocks and hitting the town!

As part of Glasgow Loves Christmas I had a personal shopping trip at House of Fraser where I purchased a new sparkly number for said party, and here it is... the French Connection Crystalised Knits Dress.

Quick pic prior to hair being done

I'm going to team the dress with my Christmas gift to myself (yes, I know that I shouldn't be using my gift prior to Christmas Day, but I will wrap it up after my work party!)...

Patent pink satchel (£40 from a local gift shop)
Pink crystal fox ring (not a good photo, but you get the idea, and ignore my sausage fingers!)

Watch this space for photographs of me on Twitter once my hair is done... Have a great weekend :-)
