Next month the Foodies Festival is back at Edinburgh's Inverleith Park on 7th, 8th and 9th August. We had a brilliant time there last year and are super excited to be returning. It was such a fantastic weekend - you can find my previous post here and below is the vlog I created from our weekend antics. This year I'm taking my wee sister Ali & her other half Robin along with us - it's going to be so much fun.

For the 10th Anniversary Celebrations, the event is going to be 50% bigger and there are loads of interesting demos, an extended Producers Market and a huge selection of street food to feast upon...Japanese, Thai, Brazilian, Argentinian, Indian, Mexican, French, African...

There are some hands on masterclasses that sound intriguing... bee keeping, oyster shucking and foraging. There is going to be food and drink pairing masterclasses in the new Wine, Champagne and Craft Beer Theatre; daily cocktail competitions between local bars to find Edinburgh's Best Mixologist and cake modelling and sugar-craft workshops in the Cake & Bake Theatre. It all sounds brilliant!!

For the kids there are Picnic in the Park themed masterclasses in the Children's Cookery Theatre where they can learn to make finger sandwiches, jellies and chocolate bugs (all children under 12 years old go free when accompanied by an adult).

There is also a Chilli Eating Competition that I'm sure Rick will be up for.. can he win the Chilli Eating Crown?

And guess what? I have three pair of tickets up for grabs!! All you need to do is follow the Rafflecopter instructions below.

Thank You!

I wanted to say a huge...

...to all my family, friends and followers who took the time to vote for Glasgow Mummy in the Clickstay Mummy Blogger Awards.

I'm aware that I bombarded your Twitter feeds, Facebook timelines and inboxes with requests for votes and retweets - apologies for that. It was all worth though it as I found out today that we won!!! It was a really close competition; all the other posts that had advice for travelling with children had great tips and suggestions. You can read them all here.

 We are going to receive £1000 towards a villa in Portugal and I'm super excited about taking the little ones on our first family holiday abroad.

The kids are away with their dad just now for the week so I'm yet to tell them our amazing news, but I know they will be delighted. My son in particular was telling anyone and everyone about the competition and had even drawn up some posters...

'Vot Wor Gago Mumi' which translates to 'Vote for Glasgow Mummy'!!

Thank you again... words don't express just how happy I am right now.

{#JanuaryJoy - celebrate your family}

Today is a big day in the Glasgow Mummy house...

Not only is it my 32nd birthday, but this afternoon was registration for my son going to school in August this year.

It fits quite well with today's Florence Finds #JanuaryJoy prompt which is to 'celebrate your family'.

My wee boy is getting so grown up...even on a day-to-day basis I notice big differences in his appearance & behaviour. He's definitely not a baby or toddler anymore.

Everyone said enjoy the younger years but I had such a tough first year that I honestly didn't enjoy it all that much.

When he was a baby I had in my head it would get easier when he reached 3 months...most people seemed to say that would be the turning point. But it didn't get better...

Brand new in the neonatal unit - he was 7 weeks early.

Looking angelic at a month old

And then I thought things might get a bit easier when he was weaned onto solids... but again, it didn't.

 It wasn't always smiles!! There were a lot of tears during year one, from him and me!
Then I thought to myself it's bound to get easier when he can sit & crawl by himself... which thankfully it did. But it took that whole first year for his behaviour and mood to change. (I reckon he had an underlying tummy discomfort, maybe associated with his prematurity and pyloric stenosis.)

I wished the time away.

And now my baby is 4 and a half years old & he's no longer my baby.

He's a proper wee boy & I can't believe its time to register him for school....I mean, school!!!!!! Just seems so surreal!

As well as Florence Find's #JanuaryJoy, I'm linking up with Groovy Mums.

Kate's listed a few questions over on her post this week and I hope that this post goes someway to answer Question 3 'What do I want to get out of life in 2014?'.

I simply want to enjoy every minute!

{#ShareAdvent - take a family portrait}

This year the kids and I had our family portrait taken by Zoe Stewart Photography and I shared a few of the snaps here on another #ShareAdvent post.

I also shared a few ideas for taking your own festive photo here.

Instead, I'm going to share with you the Christmas cards we've done over the past few years, some you may recognise from the blog but the older ones haven't been posted here before...

{Smitten Saturday: Grandparents}

Glasgow Mummy

Last week I was smitten with my sister for encouraging me with my running (which is going well), and this week I'm sticking with family as I'm thrilled that my dad and his wife have moved back to the UK... yay for grandparents that are close by!!

They landed in Glasgow on Tuesday this week and have now made their way back up to Aberdeen which is where they will be based for the next wee while.

On Thursday morning we went on a trip to the National Museum of Rural Life and it was lovely to spend a day with the kids and my dad & Jo. We started at the museum where we had a walk around all the various exhibits and searched for all the animal pictures that were on the 'treasure hunt' (we checked them all off the list & received a certificate for our efforts!), followed by a much needed coffee & cake in the cafe. After which we took a ride on Dougal the Shoogle - the bumpy tractor trailer - along to the farm. We spotted Mairi the Clydesdale horse and we counted the Tamworth piglets that were squealing (for their mummy & daddy in the next pen according to my son!). We also saw some Ayrshire cows... and to the delight of my son he saw one do a poo! We then had a quick tour of the period farmhouse and managed to find all 5 of the fluffy cows and bagged certificate number 2!!

What are you smitten with this week?

Each Saturday I'll be featuring one thing that I'm loving, whether it be food, make-up, an activity, a person... you get the idea!

Please grab my button over here somewhere & join in --->

And do help spread the word - I'd love to get a few more bloggers joining in :-)

There should hopefully be a linky tool at the bottom to allow you to add your post!!

{Sunday Roundup & Naked Mums}

If you haven't already seen on Twitter, I've been having a bad week. It all started on Sunday last weekend when I had a niggle in my right eye. By Monday morning my eye was a bit swollen & sore and on the way home from work I went to the optician (who said to go to the doctor) and then the doctor (who said to go back to the optician). My eye became progressively worse despite trying two different antibiotic drops/ointments, I've also developed some sort of cold/sore throat and I ended up back at the doctor who prescribed antibiotic tablets and a further eye ointment. After a week, my right eye is still really puffy and bruised (it looks like I've been punched) and the infection has now started in my left eye which is red and sore.

I was rather concerned that I'd developed shingles in my eye as the children have chicken pox at the moment, but the GP and optician both believe that it is a bacterial infection rather than viral. The optician is of the opinion that I've had a bad immune response to a bacterial eye infection, and this occurs in people, like me, with an impaired immune system (I take immunosuppressant tablets for Crohn's Disease). I can't remember what she said it was, but from a quick google I think I have keratitis (inflammation of the cornea) and conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctivia).

Normally I always wear make-up, even if it's just a smear of gloss and a touch of mascara, but for this week I have been in public sans make-up, naked if you will. Kate from Naked Mum blog will be proud of me! I have been under the weather and to be honest, I've not really cared what I look like. This is not like me! I'm normally of the mantra 'look good, feel good' but I just haven't had the energy to even attempt to look good. My children and I have both been poorly and yes, I even went to the optician in my pyjamas (with a coat on over the top!).

Here I am...

Ouch!

Puffy & bruised :-(

On Mother's Day... my left eye has started to get red & sore, right eye still puffy & bruised :-(

To make my week even worse, I had a horrible experience at my GP surgery. My son had a sore bottom as one of his chicken pox spots has become infected - I had to go to the doctor to get him seen. I didn't have time to arrange a babysitter, so I threw the kids in the pram and off we went. The littlest wasn't very happy when we were there and was crying a little. We had to wait which didn't help matters, but that was to be expected when we didn't have an appointment. I was just really glad they were going to see us. We moved from the waiting room into the corridor so as not to disturb the other people that were there. However, one of the other patients (an elderly man) was not impressed with the crying and complained to the receptionist, who proceeded to see if there was anything I could do to quieten her down. I felt like I had no other choice but to go outside and wait in the rain - all three of us poorly remember - to be seen by the doctor. It was awful. As he left he said that he was glad to be going as we were so noisy and that I should leave my children at home next time. Needless to say I was in tears and had no response for him. I'm visibly not well.... why would someone be so horrible? The support on Twitter was lovely, and by the time I got home and had a cup of tea I felt much better. (The kids dad has since phoned the practice and put in a complaint on my behalf.)

Anyway, here are a few other pics for my Sunday Roundup:

Some new Disney to keep us amused during our week in the the house!

Lemsip (Max, no less!) for a poorly mummy!

Heinz tomato soup!

My sick little ones. Aww!

Mother's Day flowers...

...and more Mother's Day flowers!

Pizza Hut as my Mother's Day treat...any excuse!!

How has your week been?

P.S. Gertie is looking rather lovely in her contribution to Kate's Naked Mum blog hop - very glam! Do pop on over and leave her a comment :-)

{4, not 3}

According to my son, he is turning 4, not 3! His actual birthday is tomorrow, but today we had a little party with his cousin's at his daddy's house. It's been a long, emotional day and I left the party first, with tears welling up in my eyes as I went. I found it a bit difficult. All the immediate family from his side were there plus me and despite nothing being said about the whole situation, I could feel the tension (maybe it was my imagination!?) and felt a bit awkward. I came back to my empty house, wiped away the tears and hit the gym! (About time too you might say!). I'm currently sat at my desk with a cup of tea in hand and I'm planning on having an early night - I need to catch up on sleep and prepare myself for the week ahead.

I thought I'd share a couple of the photographs in case you didn't happen to spot them in my Twitter feed. I had bought my son a very cool t-shirt (I think so anyway!) for his birthday that has his name across the front, as such I'm not sharing any photographs of him, but here is his little sister in her party dress!

She *loved* all the balloons!!

{Similarities}

My sister put together such a lovely presentation for my own hen party, which must have been over 5 years ago now. It was heartfelt, humorous, touching and I loved it. A number of the girls at the party were in tears, in a good way. She's very good with computers though and had timed the photographs to appear to music, and it was just very well done.

I've been tasked with producing a similar presentation for her hen party in a week's time. Don't worry - it's not a secret that I'm ruining - she's even provided me with a CD of photographs to use for it!!

As such, I've been digging around in our old family photographs for embarrassing photographs of her and I've been scanning them like mad into my computer to put together her slides. Thankfully I think I'm nearly done. It's not timed to music as yet, but hopefully I can figure it out in time (any tips you might have would be greatly appreciated!!).

Anyway, the more I look at photographs of myself as a youngster, I can't believe just how similar my two kiddies look like me. It's just amazing... It's still so surreal that I (along with my husband of course) produced two lovely little people!

 So here I am as a little girl....

Me, aged about 6 months

My daughter does the exact same smile... she shuts one eye - it's hilarious!!

Me, maybe about a year old, possibly nearer 18 months?

With my grandfather (my dad's dad)

And here are my two kiddies (any excuse to share pictures of them!)...

Ok, so we're maybe not that similar... but there are definitely characteristics that are the same. I love that we all have the same 'bum chin'. Hee hee.

I wonder how they will change as they get that little bit older...

I guess I'm possibly 3 here??

At primary school with my sister...

I love the little bobs that Ali & I had... so cute!

{What a Difference a Day Makes}

Yesterday was a good day. Worlds apart from how I was feeling at the start of the week!

I spent the day at Heads of Ayr Farm with a good friend and her three daughters. It was exhausting, but so much fun. The toddler had a blast, particularly in the digger sand pit area! I'd definitely recommend a visit if you're in the Glasgow area. It's just an hours drive and well worth the trip. I will be going back!

Diggers in the sand pit!

He refused to pose for a photo!!

Peek-a-boo! (covered in raspberries from lunch!)

Enjoying the sun, but refusing to wear her sunhat!

Son posing as a skunk! (at least I think that's what it is?)

Exhausted!

On the go-kart with toddler!!
