{January Joy - 11th Jan}

Today's prompt for Florence Finds #JanuaryJoy is to 'go to the cinema'. The kids are going with their dad tomorrow night as it's my birthday weekend (31 on Monday!), and my friend Claire and I are off to the cinema (perhaps with Becky from The Olive Dragonfly, but she's yet to confirm!). We're yet to decide what to go and see although I really fancy The Impossible. Pick and mix is a must!!

The last movie I saw on the big screen was Taken 2. I was a big fan of Taken, but was disappointed with Taken 2. Think prior to this it would have been Bridesmaids which Becky and I went to see at the Blythswood Square Hotel. You can read Becky's post here on the experience - I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I've never gone to the cinema alone, have you? Did you get any funny looks? I really need to stop worrying about what other people think, as it's the reason I don't do some things, cinema alone being one of them.

Cocktails at Blythswood prior to the film!!

  1. Yes I have been to the cinema alone twice. Once was when I was down in London with work and promised myself I'd go to the famous cinema at Leicester Square just for the experience. That was OK as there were plenty of others doing the same.

    The other time though was last summer when I couldn't find anyone who wanted to see The Dark Knight Returns so ended up going solo. When you're in the cinema and its dark, no-one notices. But walking in and out was awkward and I kept trying to pretend I was doing it for some kind of film review, tapping away on my phone and so on.

    I just looked daft probably.

    1. I love that you were pretending to do a review!! Very clever, if a tad bizarre!!

  2. Hi there, found your blog via Single_Man_75. I'm big on going to the cinema alone, first started in my twenties when no-one wanted to go to see Henry V with me. Or Dangerous Liaisons for about the tenth time. I love it - I get to see whatever film I want, can blub to my heart's content and not embarrass anyone (I'm big on crying to films) and get to eat all the pick and mix myself. I have never felt awkward, mostly cos I don't think anyone pays other people any attention - we are all way too conscious of ourselves, IMO. I pretty much only go accompanied to the cinema when I go with my son. I'm quite big on being alone though - I've often been on holiday alone too. (I do have friends, BTW!)

      Holiday alone is one of my things I want to do also... but thinking cinema alone may be a start!

  4. I've been alone several times. Doesn't bother me at all but probably wouldn't go on a Fri or Sat night. During the day or early evening are best!!

    I have had a solo cinema goer sit next to me a couple of times and they tend to smell really bad! I think it's because they actually do have no friends probably due to their poor hygiene!!!

    1. Well I don't smell, do I?

      I doubt I'd go at peak times on my own, but possibly Sunday during day?? The general consensus seems to be that I should just be going! I am going to put it on my to-do-list :-)
