{Selling Houses}

I'm a tad stressed out and emotions are running high.

I'm ready to move on... time for a fresh start... and as such my husband and I have decided to sell our marital home. There was no pressure put on me, but I know that it's the right thing to do. I would like to move to an area where the local schools are better and I also need to downsize. I really don't need to be living in a house this size when it's just me for 3 nights of the week!

There have been so many happy memories in this house, but coupled with that are the not so happy ones.

I'm sad to be leaving but excited for what the change will bring.

I'm doing my very best to declutter, organise and clear up as I make my way round the rooms. There are also a few small DIY jobs that are (still!) outstanding - work work to be freshened up and I'm halfway through painting my small internal bathroom.

I want the house to be warm & welcoming for viewers - today I bought a plant for the office and I have some pictures to hang... I'm getting there, slowly!

I've also seen on Pinterest that you can put vanilla extract in a coffee cup in the oven for an hour and it makes the whole house smell like heaven apparently!

Here's hoping by the end of the week I will have the house sparkling and ready to go on the market. There's just the legal stuff to sort out and then we're set. Eek!

What are your tips for a successful sale?

  1. Oh petal. When I split from my first husband I stayed on in our flat for nearly a year before I felt it was time to move on. Don't be sad about what you're leaving - bricks and mortar are only the constructs of the house, not of the home. You and the children will construct your new home with love and fun and good memories.

    Successful sale tips? The only one I have really is to depersonalise your home as much as possible as you want your viewers to think about how this could be *their* home rather than see it as yours. We tossed boxes upon boxes of crap into storage for the four weeks it took to sell our house and I still consider it a worthy investment!

    Good luck x

  2. Thank you for the lovely comment. That's me been here for nearly 14 months now on my own and feel ready to move. Trying my best to declutter the house and make it look like a show home!! I have a big basement that is being filled with boxes!! I'll get there... just seems to be taking ages!

  5. My wife tried that vanilla extract trick and it worked quite well when we were selling up, the house smelt great. We got a sale in the end and now we're in a rush to move out. It's become a little bit of a madhouse as we try to sort out all of our belongings. Who would've guessed we had so much stuff?! It's that bad that we're using www.abcselfstore.co.uk to chuck some stuff into storage just until we've got time to go through it all. Hope it all goes well for you.

    1. I'm trying to do the declutter now as I have no idea where I will put all my stuff! Hoping that new house has garage that I can cram boxes into until I'm ready to go through them! Good luck with your move!

  7. I must agree with you that leaving your home can be a little bit hard. There are lots of memories that are spent there; even those tiny scratches on the wall might have some significance on you. But speaking of which, make sure that you already did some home repairs. It is one of the most considered factors when planning to list your house.

  8. Tips for a successful sale? Basically, you can get a good impression by upgrading the interiors and exteriors of your home by adding some shrubs and flowers in the front and replacing the door handle and fixing the leaky faucet and cabinets that are not on track. And of course, price it right by hiring somebody who knows the ins and outs of real estate handling.

  9. Usually, potential buyers fall in love with a house at first sight. Meaning, the interior must be well-decorated and pleasing to the eyes. And when the looks pass their assessment, the next thing they look at are the utilities and the whole structure of the house. Everything has to be updated and well-maintained, so that it will be hassle-free for the new dwellers.
